Foxes in Tasmania
Foxes in Tasmania
The Tasmanian Department of Primary Industry and Water reports "Foxes in Tasmania."
From growing amounts of hard evidence, it is regrettably apparent that the Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) is present in low numbers in Tasmania. This efficient, adaptable predator is recognised nationally as the single most devastating introduced pest and threat to Australia's native land animals, and it would be an unmitigated disaster if it was allowed to establish in Tasmania.
A Fox Taskforce was established by the Tasmanian Government to undertake an eradication program to rid Tasmania of any foxes that may be present, and to ensure foxes are never a threat again.
Superintendents are urged to take seriously the threat which the fox poses to our State, and to support the work of the Taskforce by reporting fox sightings and any other evidence (unusual scats, den sites, stock kills) to the FOX HOTLINE 1300 FOX OUT (1300 369 688).
For other Superintendents in other sites, if you are involved in a fox control program report your success in Hole 14 of your e-par EMS Register.
